Funding palliative care professionals in Romania

Omega Project operates to enable the work of trained pediatric medical professionals in Oradea, Romania.

Having visited Emanuel Hospice in Oradea, Romania a group of us have felt compelled to support some of the work done by its amazing staff there.
Omega Project is linked to Friends of Emanuel Hospice, a charity supporting the important work of Emanuel Hospice in Oradea both in the direct medical care it delivers and its activity in the wider community.

Omega Project was officially launched in Bristol in July 2016 . We had agreed our commitment to pursue fundraising activities with a view to funding a new doctor (Paediatrician) to add to the existing hospice team. We promised to provide this funding for a minimum period of three years (i.e. £30,000 in total) to allow the hospice to give reasonable commitment to the new doctor.
However, this recruitment process is a long and difficult one, and after a few near misses, they were still without the right person to join the team at the end of 2016 to relieve excessive workloads, particular on the one doctor currently employed at the hospice. We became aware of the funding gaps in providing for the wages of the existing team of approx 20 staff including now two doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, support staff etc.

Our 2017 to 2019 Commitment

We agreed with the Emanuel Hospice team that Omega Project will fund the hospice’s current lead doctor ( Dr Beni) for three years i.e. 2017, 2018 and 2019.

2017 annual salary costs for Dr Beni were approximately £12,000, and we were very pleased to transfer this amount to the hospice in December 2017.

Fundraising in 2018 proved more challenging, and including gift aid receivable, we have only recently met this challenge, so we are now focussed on meeting our target of funding Dr Beni’s salary costs again for 2019. If you feel you can donate now, do please contact us to find how via or by contacting James or Susannah directly.
